March of Gratitude Day 7: Freedom of Speech

March of Gratitude Day 7 – I am grateful for the freedom to share my thoughts publicly.

Although I don’t always exercise this freedom, I recognize the magnitude of being afforded it. Imagine living in a society where a simple criticism of the government or its leaders could land you in prison or worse. I may receive commentary that conflicts with my views or sparks a (hopefully civil) discussion on why I’m wrong, but stating an opinion is still not a punishable offense.

I don’t take this for granted either. In 2019 there are still many societies where this is not the case.

I don’t abuse the freedom by not thinking through my views before sharing, nor do I expect freedom from the consequences of sharing.

I also don’t immediately deride, bully, or declare others wrong or otherwise when they exercise their freedoms – and it usually takes more than one statement or public thought to get me to unfollow (or boycott) others, but I will do that when I feel it is appropriate and will do so quietly.

These are simply my views and I’m #grateful that I get to share them with you!

What are you grateful for today?
